7 Ways to Motivate Yourself

As an entrepreneur, business can be challenging at times. You and God are at the center of your business. God will do his part, but you, as a good steward, have to do yours.

Do you need some extra motivation?

Here are 7 ways to motivate yourself as an entrepreneur.

  1.  Have a written Strategic Business Plan and implement it.

Planning is a critical success factor. You know the old saying, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” There’s a lot of truth in this. Prepare your plan and implement it to the best of your ability. Let it include your business mission, values, vision, goals, strategy, and action plans. Focus on your Strategic Business Plan and do something to achieve your business goals every working day. If you need help preparing or revising your Strategic Business Plan, let me know.

  1.  Engage in motivational activities

What motivates you? Reflect on this, and write a list of things that motivate you and help you stay motivated. For some people these include reading or listening to a motivational book, looking at an inspirational video, repeating affirmations out loud, visualizing their goals, counting their blessings and thanking God in advance for helping them to achieve their goals.

  1.  Focus on your “Why”

Why are you in business? Make a list of the reasons why you are in business and reflect on it. Do you have strong enough reasons that will drive you to succeed? If not, then get some and write down a list of your reasons. Use your list to motive yourself and stay motivated.

  1.  Maintain a Healthy Routine

Plan your day the evening before and set 3 to 5 goals you want to accomplish every day. Get a good night’s sleep. When you wake up, thank God for all your blessings, including your business, life, family, friends and the things to take for granted. Praise and worship God. Exercise, eat healthy, focus on the goals you set the evening before. Practice healthy habits and do your best every day. Whatever you do, work as though you are doing it for God and not human beings, knowing that the Lord will reward you (Col. 3:23-24)

  1.  Stay positive

We live in a world where there is way too much negativity and that can affect you and your business. Focus on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, admirable, lovely, and of good report (Phil. 4:8), and stay positive. Avoid negative people who drain your energy and discourage you. Limit the time you spend looking at the news, and rejoice in the Lord always.

  1.  Celebrate your progress

Every step you make in the right direction will help you achieve your goal. Acknowledge and celebrate every milestone. Reward yourself, even if it’s with a little treat like an ice-cream, manicure, day at the beach, or whatever you enjoy. Include those who help you make progress in your celebration. This will help you stay motivated to achieve your goal faster.

  1.  Get Accountability & Support

If you are a solopreneurs, you have no one other than God to hold you accountable. Being accountable to God is great. However, many people also find it very helpful to have support and accountability from a coach or mentor. Find someone who you can learn from and who will support and hold you accountable.
